The Artist is Present (1) is a performative action, that took place in the Museum of Art History, which is located in the corridors of hospital in a suburb of Tel Aviv. The pieces of this bizarre art collection share one essential constitutive element: Each image is a forgery of an original that is considered part of the Western European art canon (bevor Duchamp). With her performance Großkopf re-enactes one of the most fundamental art practice — copying „old master artworks“ . In her decision to copy a forgery of what is probably the most frequently reproduced painting, Großkopf wants to examine Benjamin‘s theses on aura for their present validity.
