The performative work Paradise: € 77,– addresses the commodification of the notion of paradise in our post-religious consumer society. In today‘s colloquial language, the term paradise describes situations characterized by abundance, effortlessness, the magic of the unknown, sensational or disreputable. The current society of commerce and consumption makes the concept of paradise tangible, even though in cultural history it has always been associated with the imagination of perfect places that are, however, unattainable due to structural reasons. Within a day, I visited a wide range of stores in Vienna that have paradise in their company name. Thus, I was able to gain temporary access to the supposed paradise at low costs.
